White Teas

Silver Needle

Baihao Yinzhen or also known as Silver Needle is a white tea produced from Fujian Province. The name is derived from the fine silvery white downy hairs on the unopened buds. Amongst white teas, Silver Needle is the most expensive and prized variety as only the finest tender buds are used.

Premium white teas such as Silver Needle are considered the rarest and the most delicate of all teas. There are strict regulations when producing a tea of this caliber. The best productions are from the first flushes, which takes place between March 15 to April 10. Only the most tender unopened buds are plucked. The plucks are then laid in shallow baskets to wilt under the sun for an extended period. Then the softened shoots are piled for slight oxidation before they are taken for low temperature baking and drying. The end result yields a clean and smooth grassiness that resembles fresh cut hay.

Silver Needle is a tea of higher class and refinement. Clean, crisp, delicate, and smooth from the moment you take a sip to the sweet grassy finish. One sip and you will immediately compare this to the finest of all white wines.
