Oolong Teas

Monkey Pick

Monkey Pick Oolong is one of the most popular Iron Goddess Oolong teas. Known for it's robust gardenia like floral notes with hints of spices reminiscent of cinnamon.

Believe it or not, legend has it that monks trained monkeys to scale the tall wild tea trees on the mountains of Fujian province for the freshest leaves. More commonly today, the phrase Monkey Picked can refer to the top shelf or highest grade of oolong teas.

Oolong teas are considered to be the most complex and complicated tea to produce and require a tea master's great skill and experience to craft their wide range of flavors. Monkey Pick Oolong tea is no different and has to be achieved with a 30-40% oxidation rate. If processed correctly, the result will yield earthy, herbaceous, and roasted notes balanced with slight floral notes of jasmine and gardenia. There are more than meets the eye when it comes to Oolong teas that are produced from the Anxi county of Fujian province.

Monkey Pick tea has a 30-40% oxidation which yields smoky and earthy notes that are well balanced with slight floral notes of gardenia. Once unfurled, the leaves reveal a mature level of oxidation that sears the green leaves lightly brown. This Oolong tea is the balance between price and taste.
